Portrait Photography
Any of those who take an interest in portrait photography sees something special in the expression of the human
face. There is a genuine interest there that helps such people stay connected with a subject in such a way so as to
capture a beautiful and expressive image. Portrait photography could make a smile or a frown last forever: it is no
longer gone within the blink of an eye. There is no doubt art in the way someone works with portrait
photography.
Lots of so-called professionals will make fifty or one hundred photos of a face, just in the hope of yielding
one that truly captures what they are looking for. This usually happens in the world of advertising, fashion and
fashion publications, where tons of pictures are taken, and only several are selected from them all. When portrait
photography is an art, or a personal form of expression, the photographer carries the camera around when traveling,
and takes a photo anywhere where he/she finds something worthy on a human face.
Authentic portrait photography could be called spontaneous, but this is not a rule. Famous photographers
recognized for their artistry, will often display photos of unknown people that they've immortalized in a life
situation that apparently had nothing special about it. This doesn't mean that portrait photography has only an
artistic side. As I've already mentioned, it is widely used for commercials, marketing promotion, magazines or for
more practical purposes than that. All our identity papers carry portrait photos, as part of the system for
demographic evidence.
And this is just an example of what portrait photography can do for us today. If you take a camera with you when
you travel, or when you go for a walk, you're likely to take some good pictures of people in their environment. In
a studio, portrait photography makes use of lighting systems, backdrops and props, buy when you are just outside,
the surroundings become as important as the person you are using as a subject. Controlled portrait photography is
usually for pros, while environmental photography it's for everybody.
And since, digital cameras are so widely available, people can take great pics of themselves capturing great
moments and dear memories. Maybe the phone camera is not the right device, but an average digital camera is
inexpensive and usually meets common photography expectations. Lots of photographers have started just with that
and ended up with a complete set of tools to satisfy their passion.
